Here are 10 songs with Memphis in the title.

1. Mott The Hoople – All The Way From Memphis

Mott the Hoople first crashed in to the UK charts in  August 1972 with their version of All The Young Dudes, it peaked at number 3. Follow up single Honaloochie Boogie hit a peak of number 12. All The Way From Memphis was their third UK chart hit and reached a peak of number 10 in September 1973!

2. Chuck Berry – Memphis, Tennessee

This Chuck Berry song, later covered by the Beatles amongst others, was one of only three top ten hits that Chuck Berry enjoyed in the UK – it was released as a double A-Side with Let It Rock and hit a peak of number 6 in the UK charts in October 1963.

3. The Cult – Memphis Hip Shake

The Cult are something of a cult band, ironically. Arguably their best known song was the UK number 15 hit She Sells Sanctuary in May 1985. The song Memphis Hip Shake was the closing song to their third studio album Electric.

4. Pixies – Letter To Memphis

The Pixies never really did anything in the UK charts – only reaching the top 40 on three occassions – but their albums have always sold well and they do have a large following. This song featured on the fourth Pixies album Trompe Le Monde.

5. Eric Burdon – Going Back To Memphis

On the debut album from the Animals came their version of the song Memphis, Tennessee. Many years later ex-Animal Eric Burdon released an album called I Used To Be An Animal, on which this song was taken.

6. The Band – Back To Memphis

This song was originally recorded by Johnnie Johnson and the Headhunters. This version by the Band featured on their 1996 album High On The Hog.

7. Marc Cohn – Walking In Memphis

When this song was first released in the UK it only reached number 66, but it was re-released later on in the same year and finally reached a peak of number 22 in October 1991. Four years later Cher took her version to number 11 in the UK charts, but the less said about that the better.

8. Neil Diamond – Memphis Flyer

In 1978 Neil Diamond released the album You Don’t Bring Me Flowers. The title song from the album was released as a single and reached number 5 in the UK charts and number 1 in the US. The song Memphis Flyer was taken from that album.

9. Cat Power – Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again

This Bob Dylan written song appeared on his 1966 album Blonde On Blonde. This version was recorded by Cat Power!

10 Hank Williams Jr – Memphis Belle

This song featured as a track on the 1991 album Pure Hank by Hank Williams Jr.
