Here is a list of 10 Beatles songs that you (may) have never heard before.
When thinking of songs to include in a list of best Beatles songs that you have never heard it was quite difficult to actually think of Beatles songs that people may not be aware of. I mean, Beatles fans who are well aware of most (if not all) of the Beatles work will know all of these songs – that’s a given. But I hope that, to the’average’ fan of the Beatles music, that these songs do indeed fit neatly in to a ‘10 best Beatles songs that you have never heard’.
Either way, enjoy the music.
1. Leave My Kitten Alone
Leave My Kitten Alone was written by Little Willie John, who had a hit with it in 1959. The Beatles recorded their version in 1964 and intended it originally to be on the Beatles For Sale album but never made the final cut.
Get it: Anthology 1
2. I’m Down
This song was a live favourite for the band. It was released as the B-Side to Help! in 1965, albeit, in a different version from this one (which is available on the Past Masters Volume 1 album).
Get it: Anthology 2
3. This Boy
Another B-Side that could have been an A-Side. This Boy was released as the B-Side to I Want To Hold Your Hand in 1963.
Get it: Past Masters Volume 1
4. Ain’t She Sweet
Written by Milton Ager and Jack Yellen, and first released in 1927, the Beatles recorded this version in 1961 and can be found on the Anthology 1 album. A later recording of the song from 1969 is on Anthology 3.
Get it: Anthology 1
5. Hey Bulldog
Not many Beatles songs are constructed around a piano riff but this one was. Hey Bulldog was recorded around the same time as Lady Madonna. While the latter was released as a single, Hey Bulldog found its way (almost buried) on the Yellow Submarine album.
Get it: Yellow Submarine
6. I Call Your Name
The Beatles wrote this song to give to Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, who released it as a B-Side to the song Bad To Me (written by John Lennon). John Lennon wasn’t too happy with the way Billy J Kramer had done the song so he got the Beatles to record their own version.
Get it: Past Masters Volume 1
7. Bad Boy
Written by Larry Williams, the Beatles recorded Bad Boy in 1965 (around the time of making Help!). It was originally earmarked for inclusion on the Help! album but eventually lost out to Dizzy Miss Lizzy. It was released on the Beatles VI album and A Collection Of Beatles Oldies as well as on the Past Masters Volumes 1.
Get it: Past Masters Volume 1
8. Searchin
Written by Leiber and Stoller for the Coasters, who had a hit with it in 1957, the Beatles recorded their version as part of their Decca audition.
Get it: Anthology 1
9. Yes It Is
This Beatles track was released as the B-Side to Ticket To Ride in 1965 and is available on the Past Masters Volume 1 album and, in a different version, on the Anthology 2 album.
Get it: Past Masters Volume 1
10. That Means A Lot
The Beatles originally intended for this song to be on the Help! album but were not happy enough with the song to include it. Instead it went to PJ Proby who had a hit with it in 1965. The Beatles version was finally released on Anthology 2.
Get it: Anthology 2

Just curious, why is Hey Bulldog on a list of Beatles song we’ve never heard? That’s been in several movie/telelvision soundtracks and there are several radio stations that play it regularly.

@thewoodlandelf, as correct as your comment may be I would still say that in terms of the average person who has heard of the Beatles it isn’t a ‘common’ Beatles song.
As an aside, it was cut from the original release of the Yellow Submarine film in the US and only got put back in for the 1999 re-release.
